“Willy Brandt - Die kleine Skulptur”

This work of art was created by Rainer Fetting (*1949). It shows the SPD [Social Democratic Party] politician Willy Brandt (1913–1992) in an interesting posture: he has raised his right hand as if he is speaking. His other hand is in his pocket. His gaze is directed downwards. He looks thoughtful.
The work is made of bronze. The surface is unusually rough and looks almost painted. Rainer Fetting has made 47 sculptures of Willy Brandt in different sizes. The model was set up in the Willy-Brandt-House, the SPD headquarters, in 1996. The smaller version in Osnabrück was erected ten years later after it was shown in an exhibition at the Kunsthalle. This was made possible with the help of citizens in the courtyard of the historic Ledenhof. The building is now home to the “Deutsche Stiftung Friedensforschung” [German Foundation for Peace Research] and the “Literaturbüro Westniedersachsen” [Literature Office West Lower Saxony].
