“Gleiches Gewicht – Gleichgewicht (Toleranz)”

In 1998, the city of Osnabrück celebrated the 350th anniversary of the Peace of Westphalia. To mark the occasion, the city organised a competition for the artistic design of the theatre forecourt. The artist Joachim Bandau (*1936) won this competition with his design.
His work of art consists of 2 massive metal elements. They weigh 11 tonnes each and are connected to each other: One is in the shape of a semicircle, the other is long and rectangular. They are so precisely balanced that they support and stabilise each other. They are in balance.
