“(Angelnder) Stadt-Hase”

The artwork by Heinrich Brummack (1936–2018) plays with the location on the river Hase in Osnabrück in a humorous way. A rabbit figure sits on a red steel girder. It is fishing in the river.
The sculpture challenges traditional ideas of sculpture: no famous person or important event is honoured here. Instead, a rabbit is being lifted up. The plinth beneath the sculpture is often covered with stickers or inscriptions. This makes us think: who is allowed to use public space and how?
The “Gedenkrelief” by Heinrich Brummack is much more serious. [A relief is a work of art on a flat stone panel.] It can be found on a side wall of the Kunsthalle.
