“Osnabrücker Friedensreiter”

There are “Friedensreiter” at 8 locations in the city. They do not look exactly the same, but are 8 different versions of the same motif. The artist Volker-Johannes Trieb (*1966) cut out a figure on horseback from a steel plate and installed it on several places in the city. The 350th anniversary of the Peace of Westphalia was celebrated in 1998. The city of Osnabrück is therefore also known as the City of Peace. The artist is particularly interested in themes such as peace, solidarity and democracy. He has left his unmistakable mark throughout the city and the surrounding area with many works of art in public spaces.
