Hans Gerd Ruwe

“Mann mit Laute”

The artist Hans-Gerd Ruwe (1926–1995) created many works of art for the city of Osnabrück. Some of them are fountains in the old town centre: the “Bürgerbrunnen”, the “Steckenpferdreiter” and the “Waschfrau”.
A lesser-known work of art is the “Mann mit Laute” at the Riedenbach. Here, a bronze male figure sits on a plinth and plays the lute. This instrument has often been associated with the pleasant things in life since the early modern period. Since around the year 1500, for example, with the courtship of a loved one or light conversation over a meal.
