In the centre of the quiet square between Jakobstrasse and Turmstrasse sits the “Mädchen mit Vogel”, half squatting and half kneeling. She is holding a bird in her left hand and her right hand in front of her chest. The bronze sculpture is small. The plinth is low. And you can walk all the way round the figure and touch it. So you can get very close to it.
The artist Fritz Szalinski (1905–1978) left behind many works of art in the city’s public spaces. These include “Mädchen mit Vogel”, “Sitzende”, “Bärengruppe mit Jungen” and “Ausschauende”.
