“Leben”

There is a work of art on the wall at the entrance to Stadthaus II. It is called “Leben” and was created by Frank Gillich (*1963). The artwork is a large acrylic panel. Verbs are printed on it in capital letters. The screen printing technique was used. The word “Leben” (to live) is printed first in red letters. Then follow other verbs that have similar meanings. For example, “to exist”, “to be”, “to be in the world”. The list of words goes on, each word leads to the next. At the end, there are words like “panting”, “gasping”, “wheezing”.
It almost feels like a performance. If you try to read the words in one breath, you might even end up gasping for air yourself.
Frank Gillich is not only known for this work of art, but also for other works in Osnabrück. He is an important part of the art scene in the city.
