“Gedenkrelief für die im Zweiten Weltkrieg getöteten Kinder”

The “Gedenkrelief” by Heinrich (1936–2018) and Jakob Brummack is located in a niche on the side wall of the nave. [A relief is a work of art on a flat stone panel.] They made it together in 2008 as a commissioned work. It shows a woman with a baby in her arms. She is looking over her shoulder into the distance. Next to her is a pram.
The relief commemorates a tragic event from the Second World War: almost 100 people died on 21 November 1944. Including many children. A bomb fell on a bunker on Schölerberg. Their names are written on the slate underneath. Heinrich Brummack wanted people in the city centre to think more about this history. That’s why he made the artwork at this spot.
A much more cheerful work of art by the artist is the “Angelnder (Stadt-)Hase”.
