“Echo I”

The artwork “Echo” by Hermann Pohlmann (*1955) can easily be overlooked. It consists of five steel plates that are embedded in the centre of Katharinenstraße. The plates measure a total of 1.80 x 1.80 metres between house numbers 13 and 17. But they are like icebergs, as most of their surface is underground and only a small part is visible.
This work was created in 1989 as part of the “Echo Project”. Various artists each made a work in the city centre and a work in response to it in the higher outskirts of the city. The corresponding work by Hermann Pohlmann is the “ Erdskulptur II” on the Westerberg.
The work “Echo” by Jochen Piepmeyer was also part of this project. It is located at the Schlossgarten.
