“Die Lügner”

A large column stands in a flower bed on a small hill on Rißmüllerplatz. On it are 2 men made of bronze. Bronze is a heavy material. The two men are looking at each other. They have long noses, just like the figure of Pinocchio. They are wearing huge coats in which their hands disappear. They are kneeling. But you can't see exactly where their legs end. Because you can't see that and because their faces are so exaggerated, the sculpture looks strange and a little scary. As a viewer, you ask yourself the question: who is actually lying to whom here?
The Dutch artist Nicolas Dings (*1953) likes Renaissance art. He finds ideas for his own works of art from the period from around 1420 to 1600. But he has his own, often witty style. He has already created many works of art for public spaces.
